Kansas City Rescue Mission's Women's Center is coming!

Here's an awesome ministry opportunity

Gathering new items for the KCRM women's ministry center. Check out these two gift registries at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Wal-Mart:
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/regGiftRegistry.asp?wrn=%2D213606274&
http://www.walmart.com/giftregistry/gr_detail.do?registryId=44752691001

This coming Sunday night at Discover, plastic totes will be provided for you to "adopt," fill, and return for the center's ministry launch later this year.

Please plan on joining in on the clean up at the Center on Saturday. And...adopt a tote to fill with needed items for the Center. Prayerfully consider how you can be the hands and feet of Christ for the homeless and hurting women of the KC Metro area.

The KCRM Women's Center ground breaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday, January 24th at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes and tours of the property and buildings will be given.

Here is some information that will inform you on the pressing need for the new Women's Center:

Kansas City Rescue Mission Women’s Center Nine things you need to know!
1.Kansas City Rescue Mission, founded in 1950 as a ministry to homeless men, completed three studies, interviewing 25 agencies to confirm there is a gap in services for single, homeless women, many suffering dual diagnoses (mental illness and addiction).

2.In 2010, 576 single, homeless women called the Hotline for the Homeless more than 2,000 times seeking shelter; only 64 beds were available citywide.  This verified the need for additional services for single homeless women.

3.In response to the need, KCRM initiated the Reaching Up, Moving Forward campaign, January 2011, to raise $4.8 million, $3.75 million of which will fund the establishment and first three years of operation of the Kansas City Rescue Mission Women’s Center.

4.KCRM Women’s Center, slated to open Spring 2012, will provide hope and housing for up to 20 single, homeless women who need assistance with temporary housing, case management and addiction recovery. Laura Pastine, founder and principal of Form Field Studio is designing the new facility with this mission in mind: KCRM Women's Center welcomes single, homeless women into a safe, therapeutic setting, offering hope for healing, security and peace.

5.Single, homeless women at KCRM Women’s Center will move through a continuum of care, including emergency services, professional counseling and case management, resident recovery, transitional housing and link to permanent affordable housing.

6.Our hope is that each woman becomes a stable member of the community, living in permanent housing with a regular income and access to a primary care physician.

7.KCRM relies on the gifts of individuals, businesses, churches and private foundations for its annual support.  To reach our goal to open the KCRM Women’s Center in the spring of 2012, we are reaching out to compassionate people throughout the metro area to give cash gifts, in-kind donations and professional services.

8.Churches and businesses can join the campaign’s “Hope Ambassador” program and sponsor or“adopt” rooms, appliances and other needs ranging from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars.  We appreciate every gift, large and small!

9.To learn more about ways you can contribute to the Reaching Up, Moving Forward campaign as a donor, Hope Ambassador or volunteer, please contact Julie Larocco, chief development officer, at (816) 421-7643 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
